How do people perceive you?
Think about that.
How do you want to be perceived? Does it differ from what others perceive?
I have been pondering this quite a bit lately. Do people perceive me to be a fitness expert? Or addicted to clean eating? Or do people think I'm a mom who can't quite get her fitness stuff figured out? Do I ruin their perception of me when I have pizza with my family instead of a ordering a salad for myself?
My goal is to be an inspiration and to help others see that they too, can take control of their life. Am I addicted to fitness? No. Do I eat clean 100% of the time? NO! Do I believe in having a healthy balance? Absolutely!
The truth of it is that I struggle. I struggle daily with the decision to stay committed to a plan. I'm a busy mom. I have the time to do the 30 minute workouts from home, but I can find 20 other things to fill that time with. I have the vegetables in the fridge, but sometimes I choose chips instead. I struggle on a daily basis - but because I have chosen this path, I have tools to help keep me in line. If I fall down, I get back up and continue on, because changes don't happen overnight - I know that now. If you want something, you have to keep plugging away at it, day after day.
I don't breath health and fitness 24/7 - it's just a small piece of my happiness puzzle.
I'm not a fitness fanatic by nature. I've had to nurture this one. It's not been easy. I exercise because it makes me a happier person. And because it makes me happier, I make myself focus on it and I've found ways to help me succeed and keep me focused.
And you know what? You can do this too. That's my message for you today. This fitness stuff is HARD work. There are many days where I want to shut the TV off and quit my workout, and I have in fact done just that. But I am telling you - if you want change, you need to challenge yourself in new ways. You need to commit to something, and see it through. There will be good days and there will be bad days, but you know what? I've never said, "man, I wish I hadn't worked out yesterday" or "I wish I'd eaten 3 cookies yesterday." I only regret the times I was too lazy to get up and do something about my situation - all the times I came up with excuses, those are the times I regret.
I'm a mom who's interests span many different areas (i.e. motorcycles, gardening, home decorating, remodeling, hiking, reading books, petting cats...) . Fitness isn't my whole life, but it's what's helped me to be a better person in every other area of my life.
Here's the thing. I want you to perceive me as a health nut who's just like you - why? Because I want to inspire you to join me in leading a healthier life! This coaching thing is about sharing my story, in hopes that someone else like me will be inspired to make a change to better themselves. If I inspire just one person by posting pictures of my nutritious food, my healthy habits, or my sweaty selfies, it's totally been worth it.
